new music friday vol. 2

happy friday friends! so much new music has dropped this past week! some of my favorite artists have even dropped full ALBUMS from jaden to marshmello and both post malone and ed sheeran dropped some fire tracks that everyone’s been talking about.

but what about those tracks that SHOULD be talked about MORE? you can find the best of them here. once again i’ve spent all day listening to all the new music i could find from this week and i’ve compiled a list with an accompanying spotify playlist to introduce you to some new artists that deserve some lovin. so sit back, relax, and enjoy the new music that came out the week of friday july 5th. feel free to listen to the playlist while you read.

rotate (clockwise): rak-su

this. freaking. song. definitely a summer bop. it’s pretty impossible to listen to this song and not want to get up and dance to it. you need to add this to your pool party playlist immediately.

mirror talk: griff

this song is a huge mood honestly. also griff’s vocals? uhhhhm YES. getting over emotional? my specialty. this song deserves SO MUCH MORE. i honestly can’t stop listening to it. catch me belting this out in my shower later. “come on girl oh get it together” and start listening to this song pls.

love me or leave me alone: beachwood

THIS SONG IS VERY RELATABLE TO MEEEEEE. anyway. this electro pop duo really came for my exact feelings with this song and i love it too much for my own good. they’re really saying everything we’re all feeling about not knowing where you stand with someone and i need y’all to listen to this song immediately. don’t leave this song alone.

voices: eyelar

this song is edgy and grungy. and i’m very much here for it. the electro-pop mixed with her voice is just a great combination and the songs lyrics speak about being emotionally vulnerable with someone else. love the honesty.

masochistic: blithe

i freaking love this song. the lyrics depict an honest take all about those ups and downs in a (kinda toxic?) relationship. but it’s a BOP.

visualize: somo

we love a good chill sexy song. i can’t wait to dance to this song alone in my future kitchen on a friday night while making chocolate chip cookies to eat while binging my favorite show. or maybe i’m just eating the cookie dough. hm decisions decisions….

rough rider: dana vaughns

“rough rider” is suuuuch a vibe and a nighttime chill song. the perfect follow up to “visualize.” you just have to listen to it.

love me too: joseph tilly, emilee

both joseph and emilee’s voices come together to create a lovely song that talks about the struggle of having a crush and desperately wanting them to like you back. the lyrics are somewhat scarily accurate especially when they sing about analyzing their every move. team overthinking over here!

wish we had history: bexy

honestly i wish i had history with this song because i would’ve started listening to it a LONG long time ago. there’s not really much to say about it except you should definitely check out this beautiful song.

social babies: twinnie – social babies, when i’m drunk, type of girl

a lil country. a lil pop. twinnie references a bunch of the tech we can all relate to today in her song “social babies” but also criticizes our dependence on it, especially when in relationships with others. “better when I’m drunk” and “type of girl” are both veeeery relatable and honest (i too am a lil magic mixed with madness). I didn’t include her last song, “superhero,” on the playlist because i felt it didn’t fit the vibe but it is a v beautiful song about love.

summertime: becca vanderbeck, matthew heath, noel geoff

this song is perfect for your chill summer morning. or chill pool day with your dog. or chill beach day. or any day really. it’s really just perfect for anytime we’re “drifting through the days without a care in our minds.” i’m a huge fan of this song because it just encapsulates the relaxed feeling of summer sunlight. “thank god for the memories and the summertime” oh and this song.

honeyweed: summer salt

another summer morning chill bop. i’m also throwing this on my skate n surf playlist. besides making me feel incredibly lonely, this song is adorable and just really beautiful. i need to check out more of their stuff immediately.

lift me up: dirty heads

this song makes everyday feel like a holiday. this song is chill with that so cal kinda vibe. a lil reggae. a lil rock. i could imagine chilling in a hammock at the beach to this song.

sue: no suits

from this one song, i’m already obsessed with this quartet and their music. i love their vibe and i love the way they open this song talking about the girl this song is named after (aka susan) in the most bro way ever.

hungover: cassie

i’m a huge fan of cassie’s use of guitar in this song, but i’m an even bigger fan of her lyrics and vocals. her comparison of her love interest to alcohol and being left with the feeling of being hungover is just simply beautiful.

more than friends: mokita

in his song “more than friends,” mokita describes regrets from a past relationship and how he wishes he could go back to a time when they were more than friends. the guitar work and vocals on this song are astounding and makes this song definitely a bop.

it don’t matter: jacob collier feat. jojo

this song is a mixture of chill and fun. with a variety of instruments and types of vocals, jacob has created a very playful song that’s perfect for your morning wake up playlist.

affection: amber run

this indie trio really went all out when creating this beautiful song. the lyrics. the vocals. the moody emotional vibes. i’m here for it.

sicker: laye

this song is a bop and i’m very much here for laye’s all lower case aesthetic. “sicker” has a dark beauty to it and i love it. plus her lyrics are just so simple yet bring out all the imagery.

soulflower: noah slee

at first i was like…what are these noises. but then the chorus dropped and i was like oh damn this IS a bop. a cute take on the word sunflower, “soulflower” is all about loving and caring for your significant other like a flower.

white: ta-ku, matt mcwaters

this song is very calming and relaxing. that’s all you need to know. oh and go listen to it because i can’t stop.

time won’t go slowly: snow patrol

i LOVE snow patrol so i was more than excited to hear that they had a new song out this week. “time won’t go slowly” is a cute wholesome song about their wish to have more time with those they love.

hard times, anything helps: boom forest – prying eyes, wanna see all of you, a lotta life in you, diamond ending

I love the album “hard times, anything helps” for its name and its very chill vibes. my favorites include “prying eyes,” “wanna see all of you,” “a lotta life in you,” and “diamond ending.” oh and “try.” tbh i like em all. i could see myself listening to this album while hanging in my hammock in a forest and i’m not mad about it.

dance in the dark: au/ra

this song is a freaking edgy bop. and i’m very much here for it. from the harmonies and vocals to the whispering, this song will have you dancing in the dark and the light.

linked: bonobo

this is some real chill electronic ish. the chillest of chill. there aren’t even any lyrics to this song and it’s still a freakin bop. i can totally see myself listening to this while having an existential crisis at like 2am while staring at the ceiling. ~*vibesssss*~

phone numbers: dominic fike

a lil rap. a lil chill. produced by kenny beats, dominic gets straight to the point with his lyrics and makes it a great combination. i love the beat on this song. very wavy.

opposite: kara marni

with a mix of r&b and soul, kara describes the struggle of giving advice to a friend in her new song “opposite.” while being very relatable, she also accompanies the beautiful song with her amazing vocals.

white roses: flyte, the staves

the combination of guitar and bongo drums as well as the vocals create a beautiful song. plus the imagery in the lyrics and the white roses make you think of a pure young love.

somebody else: flux pavilion, glnna

i had to add at least one edm song to this list for all those summer raves. glnna’s vocals work perfectly with the beat and music by flux pavilion to create a song worthy of dancing to at all those upcoming summer parties.

and that’s it! trust me, this list was waaaay longer when i first started and the playlist was around 6 hours long. but i picked the best of the best! if you haven’t already, feel free to check out the spotify playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/71xh5W1DHHFZVKjlbELDZr?si=hJ1mqaZqSAi5VepF5B54EQ

see you next friday! 🙂
