new music friday vol. 5

happy friday friends! this week was CRAZY full of new music from my favorite artists. from chance the rapper dropping his long anticipated ALBUM to taylor swift dropping another bop leading up to her new album to the 1975 dropping a song all about saving our planet, many artists are dropping stuff in august so most are gearing up and releasing amazing tracks to hype us up in anticipation and i couldn’t be more thankful.

but besides these big names we all know and love, so many newer or lesser known artists are really out here killing the game each week. so i’m back at it again with another new music friday where i make a list of my favorite underrated songs that were dropped this week with an accompanying spotify playlist! you might even see some familiar names in here this week if you’ve been following along from the beginning. here’s the best of the songs from the week of friday july 26th.

only: nf, sasha sloan

“the only” by my girl sasha already slapped before but this collab with nf goes even HARDER. her voice woven in between his intense rap just makes this song even better than it was before and i didn’t think that was even possible.

whatanight: mars playground

a highly underrated artist right here folks ! mars’s voice mixed with this smooth beat creates a catchy song that will for sure be stuck in your head from the first listen (so obviously you have to listen to it again and again to get it out, right?). plus his lil ad libs really just elevate the song to the next level. is this what heaven sounds like?

bad behavior: mabel

this song honestly makes me want to get up and dance and vibe out while making pancakes. also her voice? we have no other choice than to stan. we love alll the confidence this song exudes.

miss me more: kelsea ballerini

all the sass. all the confidence. all the country vibes. “miss me more” by kelsea ballerini is about finding yourself after a break up and realizing that you were dulling your shine while being in a relationship with someone else. bring on the empowerment.

play it right: kawala

i didn’t find this song until this week and it should TECHNICALLY belong on last week’s playlist but i really like it and think it deserves a place in this week’s playlist. the harmonies that this duo brings to the table plus that guitar? you know i had to include them.

loving you like lost: laureline

i’ve been obsessed with laureline since that first new music friday playlist i put out, and now we’re here at week five and i’m still hooked. i just can’t get over the vocals and how chill the song is. their songs are like a breath of fresh air. plus their cover art is always so aesthetically pleasing. all the calm vibes. all the love.

sofia: clairo

i’m obsessed with clairo’s voice and have been for a while now. her vocals are so dreamy and intimate and just have you feeling….soft.

honest: the band camino

just like the title says, “honest” is about being honest with your partner about each other’s feelings. I’m a big fan of the lyrics “lying to ourselves” and “now we’re caught between the real thing, and nothing at all.” i’m even more hype than before for their album to drop.

self-lovin: the wldlfe

i’m totally here for all of these indie vibes. “self-lovin” is all about that self care. jonathan van ness would be hella proud of this one.

still sad still sexy: lykke li – sex money feelings die, two nights part ii, neon

“sex money feelings die” is such a FREAKING LIFE MOOD AND A VIBE. “two nights part ii” is sooo goooood. skrillex came out here and delivered and we are thankful. neon is just so cool. this whole ep is underrated.

ready: alessia cara

i love alessia and her voice in all of her cuteness. “ready” is just a big mood and i just love it. i’m also really hyped for her ep. you’ve probably heard from her before but i just like her a lot so she’s on the playlist.

caught up: majid jordan feat. khalid

alllllll the vibessss. this song came out earlier this week and y’all have been sleeping on it. khalid is really out here THRIVING and this collaboration with majid jordan is just more evidence of it. the perfect combination i didn’t know i needed.

carnival: bryce vine – love is a blessing, drew barrymore, factory love, san junipero

this whole album is a freaking masterpiece. i’ve included my favorites in this week’s playlist but if you want to check out the while album i highly recommend it. “love is a blessing” made me think of all of that childhood nostalgia and summers spent playing outside. i love the wordplay in “drew barrymore” and the metaphor of “factory love.” “san junipero” is just a straight vibe and reminds me of that one black mirror episode?

uglykid: hobo johnson feat: elohim

this song is all kinds of vibey and the TRUMPET? love it. the lyrics are totally self deprecating which is to be expected from the title but it’s in a loving way?

post mates: jarami feat. cautious clay

wow another vibe. a groove. all the harmonies. cool colorful cover art. you can dance to it. you can cook to it. you can live to it.

emily: delacey

now i didn’t just add this song because it has my name as it’s title, i added it because it’s a bop AND because my name is the title. and it’s a whole mood? like a felt this speaking to my soul. wild concept.

say i won’t: anthony russo

a whole dance vibe. the ultimate chill. i know i say that about almost every song but this one y’all, this SONG. the harmonies? the falsetto?

open: grady feat. cailin russo

i haven’t said it enough on this list, but this is definitely going on my surf and skate playlist. the cute guitar. the perfect collaboration of grady and cailin russo’s voices? love it.

ocean of tears: caroline polachek

polachek’s voice + that synth? a match made in heaven.

tattooed on my heart: bishop briggs

bishop briggs again! i love her and her oh so confident and powerful voice. plus her songs are just so dang catchy how could we resist. we won’t be taking this song for granted.

float: 7715 feat. jrm

this song is just so cool. it’s chill but also totally something i’d hear at a friend’s pregame? my brain feels like it’s floating listening to it.

wish you’d make me cry: upsahl

a lil edgy. very indie pop. the drums in the song make it a perfect banger.

never be sorry: old dominion

oh this is totally a surf n skate bop. the guitar and their voices come together to create one heck of a bop. this might be one of my favorites from this week for sure. it’s just such a cute and catchy love song.

jealous: hope tala

another surf n skate playlist addition. besides the guitar, the drums and maracas really make this song. plus hope tala’s voice is just magical.

can’t stop your lovin’: poolside, panama

ANOTHER song perfect for my surf n skate playlist. this song just has all the vibes. can’t stop, i just can’t stop listening to it.

green light: marlhy

with her own electro-pop style, marlhy is already out here killing the game as a seventeen year old dropping bops like this one. i’m super excited to see what’s coming next from her.

i’ll be back someday: tegan and sara

these twin sisters really went all out with this song and we are forever grateful. love the electric guitar and their voices and the confidence the song exudes.

livin easy: filmore

country + vibes. this is my kind of country music. this song is full of summer late night drives with music blaring kinda vibes. listening to this song makes livin easy.

ocean away: jake miller

i feel this song would make a pretty sick background song to a travel video or something like that. it’s super inspiring and upbeat and it just makes you want to hope on the next plane and travel to see the world or the one you love.

man on the moon: overstreet – man on the moon, all nighter, on the way, sex on fire

i knew this band’s name looked familiar but i couldn’t put my finger on it until i saw a picture and realized that the frontman is none other than chord overstreet who played sam evans in the tv show glee. i don’t know what i expected from this ep but it’s truly a masterpiece. “man on the moon” might be one of my favorite songs from this entire playlist because of it’s vibes. “all nighter” is just such a freaking bop that you have to play at full volume no matter what. “on the way” is the perfect song to blare while you’re driving. “sex on fire” is pretty much a cover of kings of leon’s song and i can’t decide which one i like more?

skin game: diiv

this song has all the vibes plus those indie rock feels with a side of grunge. i hope you love it as much as i do.

miles to your heart: sultan + shepard, rock mafia, bahari

this is such a cute love song that’s also a whole bop? the concept of “counting down the miles to your heart” is just so adorable to me but it’s also a song you can dance to.

don’t be lazy: emotional oranges

first off, i think the name of this group is so cool. all the vibes. all the chill. the bass, the drums, the jazz-y sounding guitar. this song is just such a chill nighttime bed vibe to put you in the moooood.

real long time: white reaper

i’m obsessed with this song and the guitar work in it. plus those drums. you can totally rock out to this song and not be mad about it.

hummingbird: mark diamond

i think this song takes the cake as my favorite from this week’s playlist. the layering of mark diamond’s voice and the hummingbird metaphor and the guitar and drums and just ah, all of it is fantastic and i know i’ll have it stuck in my head all day.

you and i (acoustic): barns courtney

the original song was already a bop but this acoustic version just brings alllll the vibes with the guitar. this song gives off that perfect fall vibe?

boys girl: kylie morgan

this song is a WHOLE MOOD. from not wearing white because of accidentally spilling on it to jeans over dresses, i felt this song in my soullll. a lil country, a lil pop, full of relatability and a whole bop. i am a boys girl through and through.

and that’s it! this new music friday is going up later than usual because i spend a large amount of my day at the beach but nonetheless it’s up and full of bops that deserve all the love and attention. as per usual, you can find the playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4tMui4aCHBPSqelB6TcB0I?si=pcrrIiUdRqSPlYnd8l7eMQ
