new music friday vol. 7

it’s the end of the summer! my last friday at home 😦 but don’t worry I’ll still try my best to keep these posts coming every week. this week is fuuuuullll of new music and I truly couldn’t be happier. I was so excited to dig into these tunes that I started making the playlist and writing this post at one a.m. instead of on friday morning like I usually do. let’s get into it.

and as always, there’s an accompanying playlist to listen along to or just enjoy as you read this list. every song was so good it was so hard to decide which ones could stay and which ones could go. here are my favorites from the songs released the week of friday august 9th.

CHILL VIBES

i,i: bon iver – holyfields,, hey, ma, naeem, faith, salem, sh’diah,

bon iver really did us all a service and dropped his whole album weeks EARLY and i have been truly blessed by it. I was veeeery tempted to put the whole album in the playlist but I resisted the urge and picked my absolute faves to include this week. the whole thing is a masterpiece and I highly recommend it.

looking for america: lana del rey

queen lana blessed us this week. this song is just beautiful. love it.

broken: anson seabra

ultimate sad boi hours with this song. proceed with caution.

charlie: mallrat

“charlie” sonically matches the lyrics perfectly in this song as it makes a beautiful transition from a sad song to a hopeful one.

chateau (feel alright): djo

~*vibessss*~

where do you go: YEBBA

cholo love: scarypoolparty

clear as day: bonbon anglais

everything changed…: social house – at least we can say that we tried, haunt you, why you always gotta start something, tropical rain

y’all have NO IDEA how long I’ve been waiting for this ep. the whole thing is full of songs that #chillslap. I normally don’t include songs that came out as singles before the album when I include an album in my list because I usually have included them in previous playlists, but “haunt you” deserves to be recognized because I love it (and ariana grande’s vocals are beautiful in it). the chill vibes in the middle of “why you always gotta start something”? *chef’s kiss* “tropical rain” is just THAT freaking bop. so happy they dropped these songs I’ve been waiting for since I heard them live. plus the ep is the story of a relationship…but in reverse? so much thought was put into it. the whole ep is it chief.

soul searching: bazzi – soul searching, fallin (feat. 6lack), live forever, who am I?

time: audrey

cold: boy in space, unheard

face to face: ruel

new music with that old school vibe.

INDIE & CHILL

feb 14: cavetown

caretakers: pete yorn – calm down, can’t stop you, idols (we don’t ever have to say goodbye), caretakers

now, not yet: half•alive – maybe, rest (feat. samm henshaw), breakfast,

another album that I’ve been waiting for forever. obsessed with the whole thing.

love too much: keane

live forever: nasty cherry

ROCK ON

how do you love?: the regrettes – california friends, fog, stop and go, dress up, dead wrong, here you go

this album is a long one but it’s full of gems.

stay: the score – stay, rush,

hollow: barns courtney

imagine playing this song at full volume while driving with a bunch of your friends in the car jamming out.

YEE HAW

I’ll be the one: noah schnacky

this is the cutest country song of the summer. it’s like if john mayer went yee haw.

POPS AND BOPS

rooting for you: alessia cara

I just saw her open for shawn mendes and this girl not only has talent but her songs are just sooo relatable? plus she’s just the cutest but also calling it like it is.

small talk: katy perry

this song is tooooo real. the accuracy is a lil scary. a lil tea. a lil shade. I love it in all of its relatability. plus she throws in that catchy katy perry magic. blah blah you get it.

blame game: mxmtoon

mxmtoon is one of my favorite underrated artists I’ve found and I included her other songs in other playlists of mine. “blame game” is wonderful and I expected nothing less.

make you mine: public

bright side of the moon: christian french – bright side of the moon, head first, breaking all the rules, call me your love, heavy snow

this lil ep is just full of all the positive and bright vibes. I included “hungover sunday” in a previous playlist but it’s one of my favorite songs as well.

slow dance: aj mitchell, ava max

I’ve featured both of these artists on my playlists before and now them together? power moves only.

sick: cxloe, gnash

emotions: cashmere cat

looooove cashmere cat.

good parts: justin caruso, maedi

visions: leah kate, kevin courtois

we come alive (1-3): ayokay – move on, california will never rest

shawty: remi wolf

eyes on you: henri purnell, ashton love, east love

I love all things east love and was very happy to see that they were a part of this track! love it.

RAVE SZN

too close (with wrabel): louis the child, wrabel

nervous: jake miller, tomos

lucky day (with beginners): bunt., beginners

something about you (with rudimental) :elder brook, rudimental

and that’s it! I don’t know what I was on while I was making this playlist but there’s a lot more songs on it per usual and a lot more rock ones too. so many artists dropped albums or eps and it was hard to pick my favorites but you should definitely check out the full masterpieces. as always you can find the playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7vqcalc9UFCsiG2qZxbVMt?si=mdl2cJQRQfSLQlK-CrilIw

see you next friday! 🙂
