Valley experiments with the “Tempo” in new kitchen anthem

Valley’s new single “Tempo” showcases the alt-pop band’s versatility and constant experimentation in their music.

While we typically recognize Valley from their happy melodies intertwined with sad lyrics, the group switches it up with “Tempo,” a song with energizing lyrics that add to the already bumpin’ dance track.

Throughout “Tempo,” Valley encourages listeners to live in the moment with the ones they love. With lyrics like, “We can change the tempo/I like it when we go slow,” “The world could stop just because of you” and “Your touch is timeless,” the band emphasizes being present and deeply taking in every little treasured moment.

Think goofy dancing while making pasta with your significant other or closest friends kind of vibe (and then stopping dancing and heading to Denny’s). The end of the song sees a literal shift in tempo with a slow reverb breakdown that includes electric guitar perfect for an air guitar solo underneath the kitchen light.

The band explained it best when they said, “Life is short and moves quick. Taking a second to really experience things is so important these days. So lyrically, it’s about obsessing over a moment or someone in your life but in the sweetest and most pure of ways; from waking up with them in the morning to going out with them at night and existing together in the mundane …but it meaning the world to you. It’s wishing we could slow down time to experience each moment together more deeply. ‘Tempo is all about tension and release sonically.”

“Tempo” is also riddled with basketball references reminiscent of slow motion sports footage seen in games like the recent NBA finals. With catchy lyrics like “Like ’98, you Michael in Chicago” and “You’re like the shot ‘fore the buzzer go,” the iconic game time analogy only highlights the band’s innate talent for clever writing.

The song also includes a collaboration with Soaky Sirens that gives it the authentic Valley feel with a twist of freshness. “We wrote it with the lovely Soaky Siren (‘Nobody’s Love’ by Maroon 5) who we ended sampling all over the song, her voice has such a lush vintage yet modern feel to it. It really fills the space throughout ‘Tempo in a beautiful way,” Valley revealed in a press release.

With each new single, Valley propels themselves to the top of our favorite playlists, and summer hit “Tempo” is no different. Check “Tempo” OUT NOW on all streaming platforms!
