Five Fab Reasons Why Queer Eye Is The Best Show On Netflix

As a sadly unemployed college kid home for the summer, I’ve had a LOT of time on my hands. And with great time comes great responsibility (or something like that) to watch a lot of Netflix because how else am I going to spend my time when it’s pouring outside all afternoon? Doing something productive? I think not.

And over the years, I’ve seen everyone’s basic favorite tv shows. From Friends to The Office and Parks and Rec to That 70’s Show to even Jane the Virgin, I’ve watched them all and enjoyed them. Even the Netflix original Bojack Horseman will always have a special place in my cynical heart, but even that doesn’t compare to Queer Eye.

Because Queer Eye isn’t just your typical makeover show, it goes beyond that. It’s not about superficial transformations and dramatic haircut reveals, it’s more about meeting people where they’re at and helping them realize the potential that’s been within themselves all along. It’s about making an effort to be the very best you you can be for yourself. It’s what you deserve! Each of the Fab Five have their own areas of expertise with Antoni Porowski the food & wine expert, Tan France the fashion expert, Karamo Brown the culture expert, Bobby Berk the design expert, and Jonathan Van Ness the grooming expert. And while these five men are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, you don’t have to be to enjoy the show. So let’s get into the countdown of five fab reasons why Queer Eye is the best show on Netflix.

5. The Show Is Aesthetically Pleasing AF

Not only are these five of the most handsome men I’ve seen in my entire life, but everything else in the show is gorgeous too. From amazing room transformations to gorgeous meals and fire outfits to beautiful makeovers inside and out, the show has wonderful visuals that are ten times better than any HGTV makeover show any day. And if you’re not looking at the hero’s life transformation, it’s probably because you can’t tear your eyes off of the Fab Five for longer than a few seconds.

4. It’s Funny

Maybe it’s just me, but this show cracks👏 me 👏 up👏. Their initial reactions and quick wit when they first walk into these hero’s homes is enough to make laugh out loud. Plus their banter and shenanigans with one another is just the best. And if you’re listening closely you can hear some of Tan’s savage remarks in his amazing accent. We can all use a little more humor in our lives so why not let it be brought to you by Queer Eye instead of watching Friends or The Office again? No shade just tea.

3. It’s Just A Feel Good Show (but also crying. lots of crying)

It’s basically a rule of thumb for me that when Antoni cries, I cry too. But I’m also just crying all the time because of how beautiful and heartfelt everything is? The transformations of the heroes and the families and communities affected just really hits you right in the feels every. single. time.

Plus when each of the Fab Five relate to the hero’s struggles on a personal level and and are able to help them through it, it just brings up all the emotions. And don’t even get me started on the ending of each episode when the heroes express how grateful they are for their help. Many of the heroes were the way the Fab Five found them because of struggles with loss, depression, a lack of inclusion and acceptance among other things, but they were shown love and compassion and showered with hugs along the way to self love.

It’s nice to come home from a long day at work or school (or sitting at home watching other shows all day) and turn on a show that just makes your heart happy, especially when Antoni gives corgis scritchy scratchies.

2. They Aren’t Afraid To Cover Difficult Topics (and learn too!)

One of my favorite things about the show is the amount of realness the Fab Five serve. From police brutality to religion and homophobia, they don’t back down and aren’t afraid to tackle the hard stuff and bring up those much needed conversations when the situation presents itself. And they aren’t afraid to learn something too! In an episode with Skylar who identifies as transgender, Tan doesn’t really know much about that experience and is able to sit down and have a conversation about it to not only learn more about it himself, but educate viewers too who might not understand.

Obviously we all like to unwind and everything you watch doesn’t have to be educational but why the heck not become a little more informed about today’s issues at the same time?

1.It Has The Ability To Make You A Better Person

Now this last one obviously relies on you make the choice to take these messages from the show and apply them to your life, but you might even subconsciously find yourself thinking introspectively after watching a few episodes. The main thing about the show is that they’re not changing the person in major ways, they’re showing these heroes that they’re awesome the way they are and how they can express it. Like I said before, it’s not a purely superficial show. Sure the hip tips at the end are helpful, but that’s not the only tips the show is giving.

It doesn’t matter if your house decor is immaculate, you can make a killer dish better than a professional chef, your fits are always fire, you’ve been French tucking since you were born or your hair and make up are always on fleek, we can all do with a little more self confidence and self love. Plus this show also changes your perspective on how you treat others and more importantly how you treat yourself. It opens you up to more of an understanding of people (especially those part of the LGBTQ+ community) and their struggles and expands your knowledge outside of your hometown whether it be a big city or a small one.

Queer Eye on Netflix pretty much has it all. From humor to feel good stories, gorgeous home transformations to yummy recipes, SPF tips to fashion tricks, and emotional personal stories that’ll put you right in your feels, Queer Eye is not only a show about those heroes, but it can also have you looking introspectively at yourself. How do you talk about yourself? Are you self deprecating or do you hype yourself up so much that even Jonathan Van Ness would be impressed? Are you building up walls? Are you French tucking and wearing layers? Are you being the best you you can be?

But don’t take my word for it. Check it out yourself. Plus they just dropped a new season and what’s not to love?
