new music friday vol. 26

happy new music friday! I’m back and better than ever.

The Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival was TRULY magical and through this whole corona virus quarantine struggle, I wish I could go back to those four days where my greatest worry was if I was going to succumb to buying a $10 quesadilla at 11 p.m. instead of walking back to our tent and making a PB&J.

I was able to see SO MANY of my favorite artists and a few artists that I’ve even written about in my new music friday posts and featured in my playlists. Plus the whole camping experience and being surrounded by music and art all the time was incredible. But because I was gone, I’ve included songs that were released the last few weeks that I fell in love with. And as always the accompanying playlist is here. Let’s get into it.

INDIE & CHILL

Loving You Gets Hard: Alexander 23

I’m obsessed with Alexander 23. Like actually. I saw him perform at Okeechobee with his drummer and friend Tyler and they were the best duo. His voice is incredible and he sounds just like he does on his records…but like even better? I didn’t even think that was possible. Plus we were SO CLOSE. Anyway, this new song is a huge bop as it is one of his more upbeat songs and I can’t get enough of it. I’m excited to hear it live someday.

Idle Hand$: Yoshi Flower + NEW MUSIC VIDEO

We’ve once again been blessed by another music video from Yoshi Flower. The music video for his song “Idle Hand$” was just released a couple of days ago and includes an important message that I think we all need to hear right now: “Everything is going to be alright.”

The video itself was shot in one take and features Yoshi walking along train tracks in Tokyo, Japan in black and white. The making of the visual was spontaneous and in his own words from an interview with Billboard, “The making of the video was a lot like the writing of the song, just honing in on divine timing, we all get those ideas like lightning hitting our heads when we are in the shower or on a plane or just about to fall asleep. But the times when we get the courage and freedom to turn thought into action is so special, that’s my favorite part.” The song is very beautiful, simple with just a guitar and his vocals and the perfect addition to any “chill” playlist. Check it out now!

Can’t Get You: Westerns

I’m Scared and It’s Okay: Driveaway

I also love Driveaway with my whole heart. While this song was released a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t have the opportunity to feature their new song on one of my playlists so I figured I’d include it here because it’s what it deserves. IT’S SO GOOD. Check it out now.

Our Soul: Bruno Major

I’m obsessed with Bruno Major and this song is definitely one of my favorites from this week!

Green Eyes: j ember

Have You Ever Seen The Rain: The Lumineers

I’m all for a good Spotify Single cover, but this one might be one of my favorites EVER.

I Miss My Mum: Cavetown

On the Floor – Edit: Perfume Genius

Jupiter: The Marías

Speaking of the End: Låpsley

Running Red Lights (feat. Rivers Cuomo & Pink Siifu): The Avalanches, Rivers Cuomo, Pink Siifu

My Friends Online: ELIO

I’m a huge fan of this song and excited to see what ELIO comes out with next as well as her new EP this summer.

Daydream: The Aces

I’ve loved The Aces since what feels like forever and I’ve been down with their music since they first started releasing songs aka like 2016-2017ish. So you can probably image how hype I was to see them perform at Okee and get to see them perform their newest song from their sophomore album for the first time?? SO HYPE. Plus this song is insanely good. I love each of them with my whole heart and I was like three feet away from them at the festival while we were listening to a different artist perform. I almost passed out.

ROCK ON

I love Wallows. You love Wallows. We all love Wallows. I couldn’t put into words how much I love this new song of theirs. Go check it out now!

Out Of Style: The Wrecks

POPS AND BOPS

Horizons: Surfaces – Good Day, Bloom, Keep It Gold

This album was released a couple weeks ago but because I was away, I decided to also include it in this playlist. I love Surfaces so much and their music is always so positive and happy. Obsessed with this song after one listen.

Think About You: Alana Springsteen, Filmore

Lemoncholy: WENS – Tongue Tied

This whole EP is golden but this might be my favorite song.

Friday: Theresa Rex

The song that’ll give you that Friday feeling. But by going out she means drinking and leaving your room and scouring the kitchen for a late night snack.

Cologne: Alec Wigdahl

This song. So catchy. So good. A great addition to any running playlist.

VELVET: Adam Lambert -Velvet

I’m going to be real with you, I didn’t have time ot listen to this whole album for this playlist. But based on the first and title track and singles, IT’S WORTH THE LISTEN. Check it out.

The vocalssss. Maybe she popped off.

After Hours: The Weeknd – In Your Eyes, Scared To Live, Too Late

We’ve all been waiting for what feels like forever for The Weeknd’s new album and it’s finally here. Obviously I couldn’t include the whole thing so I picked a few of my faves and recommend you listen to the whole thing.

This song is a vibeeeee with those semi tropical feels.

ELECTRO DANCE + RAVE SZN

Come and Go: TOKiMONSTA, VanJess

Wavez: Snakehips, Troyboi

Creep: R3HAB, GATTÜSO
