kasual picks #35

Happy New Music Friday! Confused? Don’t be. I was contemplating changing the name of this series for a while considering I felt it was slightly generic and I wanted it to be more ~*on brand*~ if you feel me. I also made an Instagram for all my music invested peeps so feel free to check it out @kasualpicks on Instagram. I’ll be sharing my favorites in each genre on that platform so feel free to check it out! On here, however, I’ll designate my top favorites with an asterisk “*”.

So what is kasual picks? Good question. If you’re new here, I make weekly playlists where I pick my favorite songs from each week’s releases and I write about them. I also curate a Spotify playlist to go along with them. I’m all about helping people find their new favorite artists and songs. I’m looking to extend this to featuring articles about artists so if you’re interested in having your music featured or being interviewed or highlighted, feel free to reach out! DM me @kasualpicks on Instagram or email me @ kasualkook@gmail.com.

Let’s get into it! Here’s the best songs from the week of Friday, July 31st. Find the playlist HERE.

INDIE & CHILL

*my future: Billie Eilish

Need a song to vibe to while answering emails and making big money moves? Look no further. I LOVE the message of this sad sounding bop because I love a girl who’s all about the self love and putting in the work to being her best self. Love love love it!

*Caught in the Middle: Alexander 23

As a big Alexander 23 fan, I’ve been waiting for this song for quite some time, but it has been worth the wait! While you may know of him from his song “IDK You Yet” which has gone viral on TikTok, this song might be one of my top favorites from him ever so definitely give it a listen. Plus I’m obsessed with the juxtaposition in the lyrics about strangers knowing everything yet nothing at all, aka surface level vs. really knowing how your person is feeling.

This track is full of all forms of nostalgia! Think early 2000’s meets bedroom pop. And it’s even better than you can imagine. Check it out now on Spotify. And while you’re at it, check out his entire discography to see what you’ve been missing out on.

*What Could Possibly Go Wrong: Dominic Fike – Double Negative (Skeleton Milkshake), Why, Chicken Tenders, Wurli

There’s a reason this song was trending at 1am. The whole thing is a freaking masterpiece. Some upbeat bops, some vibing bops and some sad bops. Just perfection.

*bon iver: mxmtoon

Maia’s voice is angelic always and this song captures allllll the good vibes after sundown.

*is your bedroom ceiling bored? (feat. Cavetown): Sody, Cavetown

A killer collaboration this week.

Cherry Flavoured: The Neighbourhood

Head In The Clouds: BabyJake

*Thoughts in Motion: eisenach – Memes, Study Politics, Color of the Year

Last week I featured eisenach’s latest single and this week I am pleased to feature his new EP. It’s full of “dorm-pop” positive tracks that are perfect for any summer day or any winter day you want to feel like summer. There are absolutely no skips so check it out now and add some new tunes to your pool day playlist!

Park Ave: Katzù Oso

hours: again&again

The way this song describes quarantine to me.

Make Room: Paige

Broken Perfection EP: Anna Sofia – Don’t Play Pretend

I Don’t Want To Make It Alone, I Want To Make It With You: beaux

Life Goes On: Bryce Vine

*Crying Over You: The Band CAMINO, Chelsea Cutler

Two of my favorite artists collaborated and it might be one of the best best songs from this week. Listen to it and try to tell me their voices don’t sound perfect together. That’s right, you can’t.

POP AND BOPS

I Should Probably Go To Bed: Dan + Shay

Normally I’d place in Dan + Shay in the country music category, but this song is different. And by different I mean it HITS DIFFERENT. It’s more in the pop part of their pop country vibe.

Say It Again: Griff, Babeheaven

My obsession with Griff only grows with this new release.

seriously just stop: somegirlnamedanna

THIS. SONG. Such a savage bop.

Somewhere (feat. Gus Dapperton): Surf Mesa, Gus Dapperton

Married In Vegas: The Vamps

*80’s: prettyboyshav

RAP SNAP CRACKLE POP

*VIDÉ: seeyousoon – BLUE CHORD, STEAMY, BEN AFFLECK, ICWFT

This collective of nine from Orlando dropped their debut album this Friday. From their singles leading up to the album, I knew it would be fire but I did not expect this level of artistry. All nine of the group brought their individual talents and gifts to this project and it does not disappoint. “BLUE CHORD” will have you dancing in your seat and “STEAMY” will have your head bopping back and forth while you drive. Check out VIDÉ now!

Doors Unlocked (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & Polo G): Murda Beatz, Ty Dolla $ign, Polo G

ELECTRO DANCE + RAVE SZN

Lie For You (feat. A Boogie Wit da Hoodie & DaVido): Snakehips, Jess Glynne, DaVido, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie)

1:45AM (feat. Bearface): No Rome, Bearface

Don’t Leave Me: Lost Frequencies, Mathieu Koss

Cry (with John Martin): Gryffin, John Martin

*Only A Fool (with Pink Sweat$) [DJ D-Sol Remix]: Galantis, Ship Wrek, Pink Sweat$, DJ D-Sol

I didn’t think this top notch song could get any better, but it did with this new remix. Add this song to your backyard barbecue playlist for you and your dog to dance along to.

*Aftertaste – D.O.D Remix: Loud Luxury, Morgan St. Jean, D.O.D

Imagine raving to this song. Magical. Add it to your running playlist if you’re planning on doing some interval runs.
